Maureen and I were big fans of the hit TV show “Downton Abbey”. Now the series has recently hit the big screen with a featured film. This British drama series follows the lives of the Crawley family and its servants in the family’s Edwardian country house. The series begins with the 1912 sinking of the Titanic, which leaves Downton Abbey’s future in jeopardy.
The highly acclaimed show had all the makings of a terrific show: excellent writing, terrific acting and an authentic setting. The movie continues in the same excellence. But we particularly loved some of the writing and sayings from the matriarch of the family – the biting Dowager Countess Violet Grantham as portrayed by Dame Maggie Smith. One of the best actress in the world.
Two of my favorite statements from other members of the show were the following:

by Mrs. Hughes – the head housekeeper who runs the entire servant branch of Downton Abbey
Our thoughts on this quote,
We try to remember both of those sentiments when we are first dealing with prospects. We see our role as a coach and try to help people get beyond whatever scars they may have (especially the ones not visibly seen). We are aware that discussing and planning for the future causes potential uncertainty and discomfort. We strive to work in a manner to be sensitive to this issue, but also help people move forward to a more secure future.

We try from the initial meeting to get people to think about what future they envision for themselves. We enjoy working with the individuals and families that we have as beloved clients and enjoy playing a part in establishing a plan for their future.
Questions of where they are heading in 3 to 5 years and ultimately what they will be doing in a possible retirement are very individualized dreams and hopes. We have these discussions in order to help them assemble the plan and then help guide them in that direction.
