What is your part to play?

July 11, 2018 by Dan Crimmins Leave a Comment

Maureen and I were late to the game with the hit TV show “Downton Abbey”  This British drama series follows the lives of the Crawley family and its servants in the family’s Edwardian country house. The series begins with the 1912 sinking of the Titanic, which leaves Downton Abbey’s future in jeopardy.

The highly acclaimed show had all the makings of a terrific show:  excellent writing, terrific acting and an authentic setting.  But we particularly loved some of the writing and sayings from the matriarch of the family – the biting Dowager Countess Violet Grantham as portrayed by Dame Maggie Smith.  One of the best actress on television.

Two of my favorite statements from other members of the show were the following:

We all carry scars – inside or out

by Mrs. Hughes –  the head housekeeper who more or less runs the entire servant branch of Downton Abbey

Our thoughts on this quote,

We try to remember both of those sentiments when we are first dealing with prospects.  We see our role as coach in trying to help people get beyond whatever scars they may have especially the ones not visibly seen.  We are aware that discussing and planning for the future causes potential uncertainty and discomfort that they will need to reveal these hidden scars.  We strive to work in a manner to be sensitive to this issue, but also help people move forward to a more secure future.

We all have different parts to play. And we must be allowed to play them

Our thoughts on this quote,

We try from the initial meeting to get people to think about what future they envision for themselves.  We enjoy working with the eclectic group of individuals that we have as beloved clients and try to help them live out whatever life that they were born to live.

Questions of where they are heading in 3 to 5 years and ultimately what they will be doing in a possible retirement are very individualized dreams and hopes.  We have these discussions in order to help them assemble the plan and then help guide them in that direction.

Once we have a plan developed that will give them the best chance to live out their part in this world, we then work to help them make decisions to reach their potential.  The evidence is overwhelming that most people fail in their pursuit due to short-term behavior decisions that negatively impact their long-term desires.

Investing for these life time goals is simple, but never easy.  That is why our goal is to help people reach their own self fulfillment by helping them stay focused on making the right decisions and most importantly avoid the bad decisions which will negatively impact the potential of reaching their own desires.

We believe this is what sets us apart from most financial advisors.  We believe the financial understanding of how to generate returns is well understood, and we use this scientific and academic knowledge to develop the investment plan that is necessary to reach your specific individualized needs.  Our real value is helping you stay in the plan throughout the decades of life remaining.

So what part have you been called on to play?  Let us help you get there.
